Gluten Free Pie Crust Recipe

Preparation Time: 20 minutesCooking Time: 10 minutes

Use this recipe to replace any pie crust in a traditional recipe.

  • 1 1/2 Cups All-Purpose Gluten Free Flour
  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter
  • cold water

  1. Cut up the cold butter into chunks and work into the flour using a pasty claw, a fork, or a stand mixer.
  2. You will know it is done when you can hardly see the chunks of butter and mixture stick together when pressed.
  3. Add cold water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add no more than 1 Tablespoon at a time and mix in.
  4. You will know it is done when it sticks together enough to become a dough ball and can be rolled with a rolling pin without crumbling.
  5. Press into a greased pie dish and bake until it starts to brown before adding fillings.
  6. *Note that you can replace the flour blend above with any gluten free blend, the best replacement is Bob's Red Mill 1:1 Gluten Free Flour (the one that is rice-based, not garbanzo bean flour-based).
  7. *To top a pie, I recommend cutting out shapes and using a spatula to place them on top instead of trying to create lattice on top - it looks great and there is less chance of breakage!

My passion is supporting those who need to be gluten free. After my family had to transition to eating gluten free I realized how difficult it is. It is more than finding a recipe. It is about how to navigate social situations, deal with isolation, and other things that come along with it. I live in Oregon with my family, cats, and chickens.
